The  Presidents' Heads

A Journey Through America's Commanders in Stone

Tucked away in Virginia stands a field of forgotten giants — massive 20-feet tall presidential busts, weathered by time and removed from their original park setting. What was once a polished tribute has become something far more compelling: a raw, exposed look at how we remember leadership in America. I trudged through ankle-deep mud to reach them, boots sinking with every step, a fitting reminder that the American story has never been clean, simple, or easily preserved. Walking among these towering faces felt less like visiting a monument and more like stepping into a conversation about legacy, power, memory, and what we choose to preserve. In this collection, I’m sharing the photos, a video, and reflections from that experience so you can wander the field with me.

Tips For This Trip

The Presidents' Heads are located outside of Williamsburg, VA, on private property. Because of this, they are only open a few times a year, and a ticket is required. Because of the crumbling state of these heads and the sinking ground, it is undetermined how long it will remain open for the public to visit.

The location is also on unstable ground, so it is very often full of mud, so bring shoes you don't care about! There is also a small gift shop.
